Osteoporosis is a condition when bone mineral density and bone mass become reduced to critically low levels. The risk of fractures is increased at this point. As we age bone mineral density reduces, so elderly are automatically at a higher risk. Women are at a higher risk especially post menopause because the absence of estrogen can decrease bone mineral density. Calcium should be included through diet or supplementation in order to prevent osteoporosis. Resistance training can help prevent osteoporosis because when the bones are forced to bear more weight your body will work to make them stronger.
