Blood pressure is made up of two numbers. The systolic and diastolic. Systolic pressure is the amount of force against the walls of the blood vessels when the hearts is contracting and pushing blood out. The diastolic number is the amount of force against the walls of the vessels when the heart is relaxed. It is usually read as the systolic number over the diastolic number. For example 120/80 mmHg (millimeters mercury). A healthy systolic number is 90-119 and a healthy diastolic number is 60-79. Blood pressure is a good indicator of heart health. Normally when you go to see a doctor one of the basic things that they will do is check your blood pressure because it is such a vital component to your health.
