Cartilage is a firm, elastic tissue found in various joints, the outer ear, and larynx. In the joints it provides a cushion and lubricant between the bones. In the outer ear it creates satellite type shape in order to catch sound waves. In the larynx and the nose it provides a stable structure. It has many purposes throughout the body. When cartilage is damaged it is hard to repair because there is hardly any vascular tissue that can carry blood and nutrients to it.
