Crossfit is a fitness company that was established in 2000. There are over 6000 Crossfit affiliated gyms all over the world, most of which are in the U.S. There are Crossfit competitions at local, regional, and championship levels. Rich Froning, and Annie Thorisdottir are two of the most accomplished Crossfit athletes. They are both back-to-back champions in years 2011 and 2012.
The training program consists of olympic lifting, bodyweight movements, gymnastics, and aerobic exercise. The training program is constantly varied to give maximal results. There are prescribed daily workouts on the main website. Many times individual gyms will prescribe their own daily workouts.
The style of training is very intense and challenges numerous ideals that are taught in traditional exercise and health science industries. The Crossfit lifestyle has adopted a nutrition lifestyle called Paleo, which basically involves eating natural foods that were around during the Paleolithic era. Minimalist shoes are also very popular among Crossfit athletes.
