Omega 3 is a polyunsaturated fat (a good fat) that has many health benefits. It has been shown to possibly reduce the risk of dementia, and heart disease. It also can reduce ADHD symptoms in children , prevent depression, improve mood, increase circulation (especially in people with varicose veins), and reduce inflammation. This is an essential fatty acid which means our bodies don’t make it. We have to get it through our diet.
This fatty acid can be ingested through fish like salmon, herring, and mackerel. It can also be found in eggs, and flax seeds. If it is difficult to add omega 3 rich foods into your diet, you can easily supplement. The supplement comes in pill form mostly, but you can also find it in oil form. The daily recommended intake for men is 1.6 grams/day and for women it is 1.1 grams/day.
