Exercise performed to enhance magnitude and rate of a max contraction is called power training. This type of training is utilized by athletes who need to be as explosive as possible. Muscles are required to contract with maximal effort in the shortest period of time possible. Examples of power exercises are the clean, jerk, snatch, jumping, and more. The figure above shows plyometric push-ups. That exercise requires you to push as hard and as fast as you can against the ground, training power of the chest and shoulder muscles.
