Going to the gym everyday can get redundant which takes away from the fun in workouts. Every once in a while you need a change in scenery. It’s always handy to have a workout in mind that you can do outdoors. Even if it’s just in case the gym is not open at a time that is convenient for you on a certain day. These 5 unique ways to workout outdoors will give your training regiment a whole new feel of excitement.
1 – Be A Landscaper For A Day
Gardening and pushing a lawnmower are both low intensity ways to burn calories and also make your home look good. If you’re up for some more intense work, then grab a shovel and dig a big hole to plant a tree in your yard. One of my favorites is to chop at some wood with an axe. If you are chopping a tree down, make sure you are being earth-friendly and plant another one. Chopping wood is an explosive movement that works your core muscles. If you’re at it for 30 minutes or more it can get your heart rate up and provide you with some pretty high intensity exercise.
2 – Run Stairs
Stairs should not be hard for anyone to find, no matter where you live. If you’re in the city you can use the stair well of a tall building. Almost every high school or university has a stadium for football that can be utilized by the public. If you want to add some difficulty to it, throw on a weight vest. Depending on the length of the stairs that you are running 10-20 sprints should be enough to provide you with a leg blasting workout.
3 – Biking
Biking may sound like an obvious outdoor activity, but I just want to bring to your attention the numerous ways that you can implement it in your life. A road bike is a good option if you are planning on training for triathlons or other events. They can also be used to ride to the gym or even work. That’s also a great warm-up before you lift. A mountain bike, or off-road bike, is perfect for riding trails. This is a bit more challenging and exciting in my opinion. If you can, find a trail with some inclines. That will give you a calorie blasting workout.
4 – Hiking
Hiking is an activity that you can do anywhere. You don’t have to be deep in the mountains to go for a hike, even though that’s probably the coolest place to do it. You can go for a really long hike and take some sleeping bags. A short hike is fun to do with friends, or make it a spontaneous date with your significant other. If you want to ramp up the intensity then find an off-road trail and jog it. The inclines and declines will keep your legs guessing and burn a ton of calories.
5 – Hit The Beach
Not everyone lives by a beach, but you can always improvise. Find a sandbox somewhere or use this as a reason to take a vacation! The soft sand at the beach makes running, jumping, and lateral movements much harder. Stabilizer muscles have to get more involved to help you move efficiently. The sand makes moving a lot harder than on solid ground. Theres also many things that you can do in the water. Try going in knee deep water and doing jumps to increase the intensity level.
